Partner Search - Scottish company with innovative design for fishing/processing vessel

Ανάρτηση: 08/03/2016

A Scottish company which manufactures products built from hi-tech composite materials has developed a design for a new type of fishing/ processing boat which is fast, stable and fuel efficient. It would enable fishermen to add value to their catch on board  in areas which are either remote from fishing grounds and markets.

They are seeking academic and possibly industry partners who can collaborate on a potential research project or joint venture to develop an initial 20m prototype.

A company established in Scotland in 1999  specialises in building hi-tech composite products, but has a history going back to 1988 where the manger director specialised in building hi-tech epoxy composite boats, building mainly catamarans and trimarans,  and other composites products. They have, over a number of years, developed the design for a fishing/processing boat which could help sustain the fishing industry.

They are now looking for collaborative partners, most likely academics or fisheries research organisations, with whom they can work to secure funding for a research project or joint venture  to test the design and work towards producing an initial 20m prototype which can be tested and evaluated. It is anticipated that a full size 40m version will subsequently be built.

The company's expertise is in the design and construction, on how to build a very strong, lightweight  but stable and efficient composite catamaran.

They would be happy to discuss the benefits of their design and how it might help give a new direction to the fishing industry, with interested steering groups and potential partners.

Type and Role of Partner Sought:

- Type of partner sought: Academic or industry
- Specific area of activity of the partner: Research into marine design and boat building.
- Task to be performed by the partner sought: Testing of design and development of prototype fishing vessel.
